TIPS Personnel is looking for a skilled and dependable Underground Lead Hand to join our crew on underground utility projects in Edmonton. In this leadership support role, you’ll assist the Foreman with daily operations, help supervise and mentor the crew, and ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and on time. Job Responsibilities:
- Assist the Foreman with daily planning, safety meetings, and field hazard assessments
- Oversee day-to-day site activity, ensuring work is performed efficiently and safely
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to support productivity and project flow
- Monitor the quality of installations, confirm work aligns with project specifications
- Enforce OH&S compliance and TIPS Personnel safety protocols on-site
- Mentor crew members in best practices for underground pipe installation and jobsite safety
- Keep accurate records including timesheets, toolbox talks, and incident documentation
- Read and interpret blueprints, grade sheets, and layout drawings
- Support in equipment operation and pipe handling as needed
- Act as the communication bridge between the Foreman and crew, providing clear direction and feedback
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience as a Lead Hand in underground utility or civil construction
- Strong understanding of water, sewer, and storm system installation
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and grade sheets
- Knowledge of rigging, trench safety, and construction site logistics
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Equipment operation experience is a strong asset
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must have reliable transportation and required PPE (steel-toe boots, high-vis, etc.)

- 10 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
